THE ORLANDO, FLORIDA POLICE DEPARTMENT HAS ARRANGED TO PROVIDE VOLUNTEER CHAPLAINS FROM VIRTUALLY EVERY MAJOR RELIGIOUS DENOMINATION FOR COUNSELING AND ASSISTANCE SERVICES FOR POLICE OFFICERS.
Abstract
AFTER A YEAR'S EXPERIENCE WITH THE PROGRAM, MEMBERS OF THE DEPARTMENT POINT TO SEVERAL BENEFITS AND ADVANTAGES. IT SERVES AS A BOOST TO MORALE. IT CAN REDUCE THE OCCURRENCE OF SEPARATION AND DIVORCE AMONG DEPARTMENT MEMBERS AND THEIR SPOUSES. IT RESULTS IN MORE COMPASSIONATE AND EFFICIENT PERFORMANCE OF CERTAIN DUTIES, SUCH AS DEATH OR SERIOUS ILLNESS NOTIFICATION.
