A DESCRIPTION OF THE PHILOSOPHY, PROCEDURES, AND PROGRAMS OF THIS PROJECT DESIGNED TO PROVIDE EDUCATIONAL SERVICES AT THE COUNTY LEVEL FOR MEN AND WOMEN INCARCERATED FOR SHORT PERIODS OF TIME OR INDEFINITE LENGTHS OF STAY.
Abstract
AMONG THE AREAS DISCUSSED ARE THE STUDENT SELECTION POLICY AND INTAKE PROCEDURE, THE TYPES OF CURRICULA OFFERED, EXTRACURRICULAR ACTIVITIES, AND CASE STUDIES OF INMATES WHO HAVE SUCCESSFULLY COMPLETED THE PROGRAM. THE CENTER OFFERS GENERAL EDUCATIONAL DEVELOPMENT (GED) EXAMINATION PREPARATION AND COLLEGE LEVEL PROGRAMS. OF THE 34 CENTER STUDENTS WHO HAVE TAKEN THE GED, A TOTAL OF 17 PASSED ALL 5 TESTS. PROGRAMMATIC PROBLEMS SUCH AS SECURITY, TRANSIENCY, RECIDIVISM, SCHEDULING, AND EDUCATIONAL WAGES ARE ALSO DISCUSSED. INCLUDED IN THE REPORT EXHIBITS ARE AN ORGANIZATIONAL CHART, GED TEST RESULTS, A STATISTICAL REPORT OF THE SOCIOLOGICAL DISTRIBUTION OF STUDENTS, AND STUDENTS' EVALUATIONS.
