AN AID TO THE STUDENT IN DEVELOPING SAFE AND RESPONSIBLE TECHNIQUES FOR HANDLING FIREARMS.
Abstract
MODERN POLICE FIREARMS IS DESIGNED TO INSTRUCT THE LAW ENFORCEMENT STUDENT, OR THE POLICE OFFICER WHO LACKS EXPERIENCE WITH WEAPONS, IN SAFE AND RESPONSIBLE TECHNIQUES OF FIREARM HANDLING. IN THE HIERARCHY OF LEARNING, IT IS SUGGESTED THAT TECHNIQUES OF BASIC MARKMANSHIP MUST BE MASTERED BY THE STUDENT SHOOTER BEFORE HE ATTEMPTS TO LEARN COMBAT SHOOTING. THE TEXT DISCUSSES WEAPONS NOMENCLATURE, MAINTENANCE, AND BALLISTICS, AND DETAILS VARIOUS SHOOTING SITUATIONS WHICH POLICE CADETS, STUDENT OFFICERS, AND POLICE OFFICERS ARE REQUIRED TO MASTER. DESCRIPTIONS AND ACCOMPANYING ILLUSTRATIONS OF POLICE SHOTGUNS AND AMMUNITION ARE INCLUDED. ADDITIONAL MATERIAL RELATES TO NON-LETHAL GASES, CHEMICAL AGENTS, POLICE RECREATIONAL SHOOTING, AND WEAPONS SELECTION. THIS WORK ALSO SERVES AS A GUIDE TO DEVELOPING A FRAME OF REFERENCE ON THE LEGAL AND ETHICAL ISSUES CREATED BY THE USE OF FIREARMS. (AUTHOR ABSTRACT MODIFIED). (SNI ABSTRACT)
