NEED FOR AND DESIGN OF A SYSTEM OF SOCIAL, MEDICAL, EDUCATIONAL, AND REHABILITATIVE SERVICES IN THE PRINCE GEORGE'S (MD) COUNTY JAIL.
Abstract
THE STUDY PRESENTS A THREE-STEP PLAN. FIRST, CONDITIONS IN THE EXISTING JAIL CAN BE IMPROVED BY PROVIDING AIR CONDITIONING, EXERCISE SPACE, AND WORK RELEASE PROGRAMS. THE SECOND PHASE WOULD INTRODUCE A WIDE RANGE OF SERVICES IN THE NEW DETENTION FACILITY. THESE INCLUDE EDUCATION AND TRAINING PROGRAMS FOR VARIOUS SKILL LEVELS, HEALTH CARE FACILITIES AND PERSONNEL, AND VOCATIONAL AND WORK RELEASE PLANNING. THE THIRD STAGE WOULD BE THE FULL IMPLEMENTATION OF A SOCIAL SERVICE SYSTEM OFFERING INDIVIDUAL HELP AND FOLLOW-UP SERVICES TO ALL INMATES. SUPPORTIVE DATA AND PROJECTED COSTS ARE PROVIDED.
