A GUIDE INTENDED TO CHART THE MAJOR ACTIVITIES IN THE JUVENILE JUSTICE AREA WHICH THE COLLEGE OF WILLIAM AND MARY METROPOLITAN CRIMINAL JUSTICE CENTER WILL UNDERTAKE IN MOST CITIES WITH APPROPRIATE RELATED AGENCIES.
Abstract
POLICY DECISIONS ARE BASED ON INFORMATION AND RECOMMENDATIONS FROM CRIMINAL JUSTICE PERSONNEL; BASELINE DATA, COLLECTED AND ANALYZED BY THE PILOT CITIES STAFFS; JUVENILE DELINQUENCY, CRIMINAL JUSTICE, AND CHILD SERVICES LITERATURE; AND ON PROPOSALS BY PILOT CITY PROGRAM STAFF MEMBERS. GENERAL ISSUES, SUCH AS STATUTORY REFORM, CRIMINAL JUSTICE PLANNING, DISCRETION, AND PUBLIC PARTICIPATION ARE DISCUSSED. PROPER ROLES ARE DEFINED FOR POLICE AND COURTS IN THE JUVENILE JUSTICE SYSTEM. DELINQUENCY PREVENTION IS PRESENTED AS A CONCERN OF CORRECTIONS. FINALLY, THE IMPORTANCE OF COMPREHENSIVE DATA MANAGEMENT IS STRESSED. PILOT CITY PROPOSALS IN EACH OF THESE AREAS ARE DISCUSSED.
