THIS REPORT FOCUSES ON THOSE ACTIVITIES WHICH OCCUPY THE LARGEST PERCENTAGE OF A MALE INMATE'S TIME DURING HIS PERIOD OF INCARCERATION AT THE DETROIT HOUSE OF CORRECTIONS (DEHOCO).
Abstract
THE REPORT TRACES AN INMATE'S MOVEMENTS FROM THE DATA HE ENTERS DEHOCO UNTIL HIS DATE OF RELEASE AND IS INTENDED AS A BASIS FOR THE TOTAL STUDY ON DEVELOPING A METHODOLOGY FOR EVALUATING CORRECTIONAL INSTITUTIONS. (SEE NCJ-19335 AND 19337). INFORMATION WAS GATHERED FROM INTERVIEWS WITH STAFF AND INMATES. ALL OF THE ROUTINE EVENTS THAT OCCUR IN THE INSTITUTION ON A DAILY BASIS ARE DESCRIBED. SUBJECTIVE INFORMATION HAS ALSO BEEN INCLUDED WHICH REFLECTS HOW VARIOUS PERSONS VIEW DEHOCO IN TERMS OF ITS CUSTODIAL AND REHABILITATIVE RESPONSIBILITY. SAMPLES OF TEST MATERIAL, INTAKE FORMS, AND RECORDS ARE INCLUDED. DETAILED FLOW CHARTS WERE DEVELOPED TO PINPOINT AREAS WHERE MAJOR DECISION-MAKING PROCESSES OCCUR IN THE DAILY ROUTINE.
