DEALS WITH THE NEED TO INVOLVE ALL TYPES OF CITIZENS IN BUILDING A MORE ADEQUATE CRIME CONTROL SYSTEM.
Abstract
THE AUTHOR BELIEVES THAT PUBLIC PARTICIPATION IS ESSENTIAL AND POSSIBLE IN THE SUPPORT OF PROGRAMS DESIGNED TO DETER AND CONTROL CRIME IN OUR SOCIETY. IT MUST BE MADE A TENET OF NATIONAL POLICY TO ACHIEVE SUCH A GOAL. AN INTENSIVE PUBLIC EDUCATION EFFORT BY BOTH GOVERNMENTAL AND NON-GOVERNMENTAL AGENCIES IS NEEDED TO AFFECT PUBLIC ATTITUDES AND TO PERSUADE CITIZENS FROM EVERY WALK OF LIFE TO PARTICIPATE IN HELPING TO REDUCE CRIME THROUGH DIRECT VOLUNTEER SERVICE OR THROUGH ORGANIZED ACTION TO SEEK THE IMPROVEMENT OF THE CRIME CONTROL SYSTEM. THE NATIONAL COUNCIL ON CRIME AND DELINQUENCY IS DISCUSSED BRIEFLY WITH REGARD TO ITS STIMULATION OF OTHER GROUPS INTO SOCIAL ACTION.
