This report summarizes the activities and operations of the Mississippi correctional system during fiscal year 1994.
Abstract
The year involved the initiation of the largest expansion program in the history of the Mississippi Department of Corrections. Through this expansion, the Department will begin testing the feasibility of privatization and will be greatly increasing the size of the existing institutions to ensure an adequate number of prison beds. The Department operates three major institutions and 16 Community Work Centers, each of which reports to one of the three major institutions. The monthly institutional populations ranged from 8,185 in July 1994 to 8,419 in February 1995. The cost per inmate day ranged from $1.27 for field services to $29.85 for correctional institutions. Figures detailing inmate characteristics, tables, organizational chart, map, vehicle inventory, and expenditure data
