This manual provides law enforcement officers with a step-by- step guide on how to respond to and investigate missing child cases and gives administrators a framework to manage the missing child response within their agency's jurisdiction.
Abstract
The first chapter highlights specific initiatives that have been enacted to assist law enforcement personnel in missing child cases. Four subsequent chapters describe methods that have proven effective when investigating these cases, from the initial response to the determination and subsequent inquiry into family, nonfamily, or runaway child cases. Two separate chapters outline general investigative techniques and resources, procedures on using information and tailoring techniques to help resolve cases, and available agencies and organizations that can serve as resources. The final two chapters deal with crisis media relations and management issues. 28 figures and 8 appendixes
