Abstract
THE TOWN OF NEWTON HAS 91,000 FULL-TIME RESIDENTS IN AN 18 SQUARE MILE AREA. THE POLICE INFORMATION SYSTEM IS A BASIC/FOUR COMPUTER SYSTEM, COMPOSED OF A CENTRAL PROCESSOR (THE MINICOMPUTER PER SE), TWO MEDIUM-SPEED PRINTERS, A TERMINAL WHICH INCORPORATES VISUAL READOUTS ON A SCREEN, A DISC DRIVE, AND A MAGNETIC TAPE DRIVE. FUNCTIONS PERFORMED ON A DAILY BASIS RANGE FROM A CONTINUOUS 24-HOUR CHRONOLOGICAL JOURNAL OF ALL EVENTS TO A COMPUTERIZED BURGLAR ALARM ANNUNCIATION SYSTEM.
