MOBILE CRIME LABORATORIES AND OTHER NEW TECHNIQUES FOR QUICK GATHERING AND PROCESSING OF EVIDENCE ARE USED BY THE WASHINGTON, D.C., METROPOLITAN POLICE.
Abstract
VARIOUS INNOVATIONS ARE BEING UTILIZED TO PROCESS EVIDENCE WHILE IT IS STILL FRESH. THE MOBILE LABORATORIES TAKE AERIAL PHOTOGRAPHS TO DETERMINE ESCAPE ROUTES IN MAJOR CASES. SPECIALIZED FORMS ARE USED FOR THE LAB TO RELAY ITS FINDINGS TO THE INVESTIGATING UNITS. SOME PATROLMEN HAVE BEEN TRAINED TO PROCESS CRIME SCENES IN CERTAIN CASES. SPECIALLY EQUIPPED ATTACHE CASES HAVE BEEN DISTRIBUTED FOR CONDUCTING MINOR CRIME SCENE SEARCHES. A LISTING OF THE EQUIPMENT USED IN THE MOBILE LAB IS INCLUDED.
