SEPARATION AND VISUALIZATION PROCEDURES FOR DETECTING THE CHEMICAL ADULTERANTS NECESSARY TO INHIBIT FREE RADICAL REACTIONS IN NITROCELLULOSE, AND THEIR REACTION PRODUCTS.
Abstract
THE MINOR COMPONENTS, SUCH AS DIPHENYLAMINE, ARE LEACHED FROM POWDER GRANULES AND RESIDUES WITH DICHLOROMETHANE, THEN SEPARATED ON A SILICA GEL THIN LAYER CHROMATOGRAPHY PLATE AND VISUALIZED. QUALITATIVE ANALYSIS IS SUFFICIENT IN MOST CASES FOR COMPARISON OF TWO POWDERS, BUT, IN THOSE INSTANCES OF SIMILARITY, A ROUGH QUANTITATIVE ANALYSIS EXTENDS THE IDENTIFICATION. IT WAS DETERMINED THAT NO EVIDENCE WAS DAMAGED BY WASHING ARTIFACTS WITH DICHLOROMETHANE. (AUTHOR ABSTRACT)
