A SOLUTION OF P,P'-TETRAMETHYLDIAMINODIPHENYLMETHANE (TETRABASE) IN 1,1,2 TRICHLOROTRIFLUORETHANE (FREON 113) IS USED TO REACT WITH THE IODINE TO PRODUCE A GREEN-BLUE COLOR, THUS FIXING THE LATENT PRINT.
Abstract
THE FREON 113 SOLVENT IS CHOSEN FOR ITS LOW TOXICITY, NON-FLAMMABILITY AND RAPID RATE OF EVAPORATION. WHERE THE USE OF THE SOLVENT IS TO BE AVOIDED, THE APPLICATION TO THE IODINE PRINT OF A PAD OF UNCURED SILICONE RUBBER PUTTY INTO WHICH DRY TETRABASE HAS BEEN INCORPORATED, CONVERTS THE PRINT TO A PERMANENT BLUE COLOR.
