This document describes a law enforcement equipment standard developed by the Law Enforcement Standards Laboratory at the National Bureau of Standards that covers the use of metallic window foil in intrusion alarm systems.
Abstract
Adopted by the National Institute of Justice (NIJ) as NIJ Standard 0319.00, the equipment standard is a technical document consisting of performance and other requirements and test methods. Equipment purchasers can use test methods described in the standard or they can have tests conducted on their behalf by a qualified testing laboratory. Law enforcement personnel can also reference the standard in purchase documents and require that any equipment offered for purchase meet the standard's requirements and that compliance be guaranteed by the vendor or attested to by an independent testing laboratory. The necessarily technical nature of the standard and its special focus as a procurement aid make it of limited use by those who seek general guidance on metallic window foil for intrusion alarm systems. The main purpose of the standard is to establish performance requirements and test methods for metallic window foil used in intrusion alarm systems as a sensor to detect glass breakage. Performance requirements are specified for electrical resistance and foil breakage. 4 figures
