Produced through a collaboration of efforts, this report assists and guides State and local mental health agencies to create or revise plans for response to human or natural disasters and emergencies.
Abstract
Through a collaboration between the Center for Mental Health Services (CMHS), within the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration, and the National Association for State Mental Health Program Directors an assessment was conducted on the status of disaster mental health plans in the country, providing guidance to States regarding important components in the planning process, as well as potential content and organization of viable plans. This report is the result of that process. The report acts as a guide, full of helpful information and applicable resources for State and local mental health entities, and specifically, for State and local mental health leaders as they create and/or revise all-hazards response plans. In particular, the document provides counsel to States on considerations for the planning process and for actual plan content. Glossary, tables, appendixes A-C, and references
