THIS DOCUMENT DESCRIBES THE DEVELOPMENT AND PREPARATIONS WHICH LED TO THE IMPLEMENTATION OF THREE CANADIAN POLICE-COMMUNITY CONFERENCES, AND REPRINTS THE PROCEEDINGS OF THESE CONFERENCES.
Abstract
THE OBJECTIVE OF THESE CONFERENCES WAS TO PROVIDE A FORUM FOR POLICE-COMMUNITY DIALOGUE ABOUT COMMUNITY CONCERNS AND COMMUNITY RELATIONS. THIS EFFORT WAS INITIATED AT THE LOCAL LEVEL: GROUPS OF CITIZENS AND POLICE FROM INDIVIDUAL MUNICIPALITIES WERE TO MEET AND DISCUSS MUTUAL CONCERNS. AFTER THE LOCAL STAGE, LARGER CONFERENCES INVOLVING TEAMS OF POLICE AND CITIZENS FROM MANY CITIES WERE TO BE ESTABLISHED. THE DEVELOPMENT OF THE CITY-BASED PROGRAM IS DESCRIBED FOR TWO ONTARIO CITIES. TWO LARGER CONFERENCES INVOLVING GROUPS FROM SEVERAL ONTARIO COMMUNITIES ARE BRIEFLY DESCRIBED. INCLUDED IN THE DESCRIPTIONS OF THESE TWO CONFERENCES IS INFORMATION ON THE PARTICPATING COMMUNITIES, PROBLEMS DISCUSSED, THE SOLUTIONS OFFERED, AND THE RESOLUTIONS PRESENTED. FINALLY, THIS REPORT DESCRIBES THE PROCEEDINGS OF THE GLENDON PROJECT, WHICH WAS THE CULMINATION OF THE SEVERAL RESIDENTIAL SEMINARS CONDUCTED FROM 1971-1973. A DAY-BY-DAY DESCRIPTION OF THE CONFERENCE ACTIVITIES, DISCUSSIONS, AND CONCLUSIONS IS PRESENTED. FINAL RESOLUTIONS ON POLICE-COMMUNITY RELATIONS WHICH WERE REACHED AT THE CONFERENCE ARE LISTED.
