Abstract
The field of school crisis prevention and intervention, particularly in the area of violence, has made notable advances in the past decade. This introduction to the special issue of Journal of School Violence first reviews some of the advances in understanding violence within a prevention science framework. Second, the translation of this knowledge into action through developing interventions and examining efficacy and effectiveness is discussed. Third, issues relevant for implementing, disseminating, and monitoring interventions are reviewed. Finally, the articles in the special issue are introduced. Each of the articles, written by experts from diverse fields, includes empirical findings using a variety of methodologies, implications for schools, and an outline of the direction for future research in the area.
