Papers included in this volume were presented at the 93rd International Seminar Course, Policy Perspective for Organized Crime Prevention, that was sponsored in 1993 by the United Nations Asia and Far East Institute for the Prevention of Crime and the Treatment of Offenders.
Abstract
The first paper explains features of criminal associations in Hong Kong and identifies issues in organized crime control. Subsequent papers focus on mutual assistance as a means of preventing organized crime in Thailand, recent legislation in Germany to reduce organized crime, organized crime control in the United States, the impact of Federalism on international criminal matters and the plea bargaining system in the United States, the Australian perspective on organized crime control, organized drug control in South Korea, and organized crime control in Malaysia. Policy perspectives on organized crime suppression in general and in Poland and Singapore are offered, and significant aspects of organized crime in India and Pakistan are discussed. Finally, the papers focus on innovative legislation and methods to prevent organized crime, law enforcement effectiveness in combating organized crime, and the enhancement of public participation in eliminating organized crime and protecting witnesses.
