Pertinent data and relevant accomplishments occurring during 1976 and 1977 are reported concerning the Massachusetts Office of the Commissioner of Probation.
Abstract
This 2-year period was marked by both turbulence and change. The turbulence resulted from a bomb explosion in the office receiving area early in 1976. Change resulted from high-level staff appointments. The probation service steadily expanded, with offices in the probate courts, the appointment of additional probation officers in many courts, and the enactment of legislation allowing collective bargaining for probation officers. The report discusses executive control and supervision, restructuring of a field survey, commissioner's regulations, and legislation and court decisions of 1976 and 1977. Activities of the probation central file unit, the programming planning and management unit, and the research unit are discussed, as well as those of the Massachusetts Probation Service which has 103 offices. Financial information and tabular data are supplied.
