This manual presents a brief project description and the codebook for a study of various aspects of the lives (including crime patterns) of 1,227 young men in Marion County, Oreg., from 1964 to 1979.
Abstract
Subjects were interviewed in a 12-wave panel study beginning in their sophomore year of high school and continuing to age 30. The first wave of interviews, conducted in the high schools in 1964, used a 200-item questionnaire; the second wave, the first in the longitudinal design, consisted of face-to-face interviews using a 225-item instrument. Ten subsequent waves of the study were conducted by mail approximately yearly. Interviews covered issues such as family relations, school performance, educational plans, dating, drinking, drug use, military service, delinquency, offenses and dispositions, and Vietnam experiences. The data file is organized so that each of the respondents has 36 separate records. The codebook lists the code numbers for each item of information contained in the questionnaire. Under each code number for a specific questionnaire item, the code numbers for the answer options are provided. Information for each answer option covers absolute frequency, relative frequency (percentage), adjusted frequency, and cumulative frequency.
