THIS BOOK TAKES A MIDDLE-OF-THE-ROAD APPROACH TO MARIJUANA USE IN THAT IT DEBUNKS SOME OF THE THEORIES OF BOTH THE ANTI AND PRO MARIJUANA EXTREMISTS.
Abstract
IN EASILY-UNDERSTOOD LAYMEN'S LANGUAGE, DR. BLOOMQUIST TRACES THE HISTORY OF MARIJUANA FROM CULTURE TO CULTURE, EXPLORING THE MANNER IN WHICH EACH SOCIETY HAS SOUGHT TO MEET THE PROBLEM. HE SURVEYS THE DRUG SCENE, LOOKING AT TYPES OF USERS AND THE RELATIONSHIP OF MARIJUANA TO OTHER DRUGS. HE EXPLORES THE LANGUAGE OF THE MARIJUANA WORLD, AND THE RESEARCH FINDINGS, FROM MEDICAL VIEWS ON THE DRUG'S EFFECT TO THE STATE OF MIND OF THE DRUG ABUSER. DR. BLOOMQUIST BRINGS INTO FOCUS AND CLINICALLY ANALYZES THE VARIED AND CONTROVERSIAL POSITIONS TAKEN ON MARIJUANA, IN A MANNER ONLY POSSIBLE FOR SOMEONE POSSESSING HIS EXPERTISE IN MEDICINE AND PUBLIC HEALTH. EVERY FACET OF THE MARIJUANA PROBLEM IS EXPLORED, WHETHER IT BE IN VIETNAM, THE EMERGING NATIONS OF AFRICA, OR OUR OWN COLLEGE CAMPUSES. THE BOOK ALSO EXAMINES THE LAWS RESTRICTING MARIJUANA USE, IN THIS COUNTRY AND THROUGHOUT THE WORLD, AND THE REASONING OF THE JUDGES IN REACHING THE MAJOR LEGAL DECISIONS ON THE DRUG.
