THE MACADAPTIVE BEHAVIOR RECORD (MBR) IS A 16-ITEM CHECKLIST OF DAILY ACTIVITIES PREDICTIVE OF CRIMINAL ACTS, WHICH FOCUSES ON BEHAVIORAL EXCESSES AND/OR DEFICITS IN CRITICAL AREAS OF SOCIETAL ADJUSTMENT.
Abstract
CHECKLIST ITEMS INCLUDE INCOME, ALCOHOL USE, GAMBLING, PHYSICAL CONDITION, MONEY MANAGEMENT, AND MALADAPTIVE ASSOCIATES. INFORMATION IS COLLECTED IN A BEHAVIORAL INTERVIEW, AND A NUMERICAL VALUE IS DERIVED THAT REFLECTS THE INDIVIDUAL'S ADJUSTMENT. THIS MANUAL DISCUSSES THE DEVELOPMENT OF THE MBR AND PROVIDES INSTRUCTIONS ON BEHAVIORAL INTERVIEWING, THE ROLE OF THE INTERVIEWER, SCORING THE ITEMS, INTERPRETING THE SCORE, AND HANDLING SPECIAL SITUATIONS. THE SCRIPT OF A SAMPLE MBR INTERVIEW IS INCLUDED. THE APPENDIX CONTAINS DATA ON THE VALIDITY AND RELIABILITY OF THE MBR AND BOTH THE SHORT AND UNABBREVIATED MBR FORMS. A LIST OF REFERENCES IS ALSO PROVIDED.
