This manual acknowledges that various systems, including health, education, social services, criminal justice, and community-based services, contribute to society's overall response to domestic violence and that practitioners who develop policies and operate programs need current information on domestic violence prevention strategies being implemented in their own and other countries.
Abstract
Although the manual is set within the broad context of ongoing international practices related to domestic violence, the specific content is anchored primarily with the needs of criminal justice practitioners in mind. The manual focuses on effective policies, measures, and strategies to deal with domestic violence. Particular attention is paid to underlying principles of action for preventing domestic violence and to domestic violence prevention strategies currently in use. Manual sections provide a basic orientation to the problem of domestic violence, as well as information on major themes to be considered in developing criminal justice system responses to domestic violence, strategies for dealing with domestic violence, means by which practitioners from all sectors can work together to prevent domestic violence, training needs of practitioners, the role of education in preventing domestic violence, and the contribution international cooperation and information exchange can make in developing responses to domestic violence.
