THIS SUPPLEMENT TO THE 'MANUAL FOR DRUG ABUSE TREATMENT PROGRAM SELF-EVALUATION' CONTAINS TREATMENT OUTCOME DATA USEFUL TO CLINIC DRUG TREATMENT PROGRAM PERSONNEL.
Abstract
A PART OF THE CLIENT ORIENTED DATA ACQUISITION PROCESS (CODAP) DATA COLLECTION SYSTEM OF THE NATIONAL INSTITUTE ON DRUG ABUSE, THE SUPPLEMENT PRESENTS A SUMMARY OF SEVEN MEASURES SELECTED FROM THE 'MANUAL FOR DRUG ABUSE' AND COMPUTED FROM DATA COLLECTED FROM 1,274 PROGRAMS ACROSS THE NATION OVER A 1-YEAR PERIOD. THE INFORMATION ALLOWS TREATMENT PERSONNEL TO COMPARE GOALS AND STANDARDS OF SUCCESS, IDENTIFY PROBLEMS, AND PROVIDE INFORMATION FOR DECISIONS ABOUT THE ALLOCATION OF RESOURCES. SINCE THE VALUES REPRESENT ACTUAL PERFORMANCE IN THE PROGRAMS, COMPARISON WITH INDIVIDUAL PROGRAMS REVEALS THE EXTENT TO WHICH 'REAL' PROGRESS IS BEING MADE. CODAP DATA ARE COLLECTED ON CLIENTS AT ADMISSION TO AND DISCHARGE FROM DRUG ABUSE TREATMENT PROGRAMS IN APPROXIMATELY 1,800 CLINICS RECEIVING FEDERAL FUNDS. THE DATA INCLUDE DEMOGRAPHIC INFORMATION, CLIENT'S PATTERN OF DRUG ABUSE, PRIOR TREATMENT EXPERIENCE, AND DISCHARGE DATA. THIS SUPPLEMENT CONTAINS AN EXPLANATION OF THE FORMAT OF THE CODAP TABLES, A DISCUSSION OF COMPARISON WITH CODAP VALUES, AND VALUES ON SELECTED TREATMENT OUTCOME MEASURES FROM CODAP OUTPATIENT METHADONE MAINTENANCE PROGRAMS, DRUG-FREE RESIDENTIAL COMMUNITIES, OUTPATIENT DRUG-FREE PROGRAMS, AND OUTPATIENT DETOXIFICATION PROGRAMS. TABULAR DATA ARE PROVIDED. (DAG)
