Computer systems grow increasingly complex at the same time government and society depend more on computers in order to function. Protection of computers and computer-stored information from abuse and damage is an increasingly important responsibility for computer center management.

Dr. Hammer provides a succinct overview of why computer security is needed and what is involved, with special emphasis on the duties of management and the need for commitment by top management. Topics covered include the basics of computer security, organization of a computer security program, personnel practices, security administration, and backup, recovery, and disaster planning.
