Abstract
ADDRESSING ORGANIZATIONAL, STRUCTURAL, AND MANPOWER UTILIZATION PROBLEMS FROM A BUSINESS MANAGER'S PERSPECTIVE, THIS BOOK CONTAINS CHAPTERS ON ORGANIZATION, MOTIVATION, LEADERSHIP, DISCIPLINE, DECISIONMAKING, DELEGATION OF AUTHORITY AND RESPONSIBILITIES, ASSESSMENT AND APPRAISAL OF SUBORDINATES' PERFORMANCE, TRAINING, AND DEVELOPMENT OF INDIVIDUAL POTENTIAL. IT REFLECTS EXPERTISE IN APPLIED PSYCHOLOGY AND EMPHASIZES EMPATHY AND PERCEPTION OF POLICE OFFICERS AS HUMAN BEINGS. IT SUGGESTS THAT POLICE MANAGERS TREAT SUBORDINATES WITH RESPECT AND DEAL WITH THEM IN AN HONEST, IMPARTIAL, AND CONSISTENT MANNER. EFFECTIVE COMMUNICATION TECHNIQUES ARE ALSO DESCRIBED. A BIBLIOGRAPHY WITH 16 CITATIONS ON MANAGEMENT (WITHOUT REFERENCE TO POLICE WORK) IS APPENDED. AN ORGANIZATIONAL CHART IS INCLUDED. (LGR)
