Abstract
THE TEXAS CORRECTIONAL SYSTEM AND THE PRISON INDUSTRIES AND OPERATIONS ARE FIRST DESCRIBED. TO IMPROVE THIS SYSTEM, TEXAS REQUESTED AND RECEIVED A GRANT FROM THE LAW ENFORCEMENT ASSISTANCE ADMINISTRATION TO IMPLEMENT A MANAGEMENT TRAINING PROGRAM FOR TEXAS' ENTIRE CORRECTION SYSTEM AS WELL AS FOR THE BUREAU OF PARDONS AND PAROLES. A PROGRAM OF THREE TRAINING MODULES WAS DESIGNED. THESE MODULES INCLUDED A TWO-AND-A-HALF DAY MANAGEMENT BRIEFING, GUIDANCE ON MAPPING OUT A LONG-RANGE PLAN, AND A PROGRAM TO DEVELOP MANAGERIAL SKILLS IN THE MIDDLE AND LOWER STAFF LEVELS.
