Regional representatives are briefed on LEAA's plans to promote its Management Information System (MIS) to the State Planning Agencies (SPA's) with attention to procedures for assessing the status of SPA information management.
Abstract
LEAA will examine the current State information systems and will eventually make the national MIS available to States whose information systems are deemed inadequate. LEAA has designed a survey instrument for this purpose to be filled out by all States except those 10 which are currently implementing the national MIS. This includes the three or four States where information systems have been developed independently of the Federal effort and the majority of States, about whose systems LEAA has little or no knowledge. The regional agencies are considered vital intermediaries in transmitting the questionnaires to the SPA's and recording adequately the requirement information. The survey is to be followed up by site visits to SPA's by regional and Federal representatives in order to verify survey data. Each step in LEAA's program is illustrated, site visit schedules are established, and survey items are explained. LEAA emphasizes that accountability to Congress is important during these information gathering and implementation efforts.
