CONFERENCES WHICH WERE DESIGNED TO IMPROVE MANAGEMENT AND ADMINISTRATIVE KNOWLEDGE AND EFFECTIVENESS WERE HELD AMONG A NATIONWIDE SAMPLE OF POLICE COMMAND OFFICERS.
Abstract
OVER 100 COMMAND OFFICERS FROM THROUGHOUT THE US ATTENDED CONFERENCES CONSISTING OF ADDRESSES, PANELS, AND WORKSHOPS IN ORDER TO IMPROVE THEIR OPERATING EFFECTIVENESS, THE PROFESSIONALIZATION OF THEIR DEPARTMENTS AND COMMUNITY AWARENESS - AND TO SHARE KNOWLEDGE OF EFFECTIVE OPERATIONS IN CONFRONTING COMMON URBAN POLICE PROBLEMS. RECOMMENDATIONS RESULTED FROM DISCUSSION IN THE FIELDS OF PERSONNEL RECRUITMENT AND RETENTION, UTILIZATION OF FIELD PERSONNEL, POLICE PLANNING, RESEARCH AND DEVELOPMENT, POLICE UNIONIZATION AND EFFECTIVE MANAGEMENT CONTROL OF DETECTIVE UNITS.
