This report summarizes the year's activities of the Magistrate's Association of England. Pertinent new legislation is cited, as are accomplishments of the association's committees and branches.
Abstract
Among the challenges of the coming year is implementation of a new Criminal Justice Act providing a greater range of noncustodial penalties. Accomplishments of the preceding year include increasing contacts and cooperative relationships between the Association and government agencies as well as other professional groups such as justices' clerks and probation officers' organizations. Appendixes contain a listing of honorary officers, training notes for branches, and discussions of simplification of road traffic law, detention of suspects, implementation of the Domestic Proceedings Act, the penalty points system, applications for warrants, family jurisdiction, and solven abuse. Photographs and financial data are provided.
