This document profiles various California and other State anti-gang programs, as well as anti-gang programs at the national and Federal levels.
Abstract
First described is the Multi-agency Gang Information Center (MAGIC), which is a fully relational data base program designed for tracking gang activity. Also described is the Go/Trak juvenile offender system, which combines the Serious Habitual Offender Program, Street Gang Intelligence, and Auto Theft Intelligence. California's Gang Reporting, Evaluation, and Tracking System is also profiled, followed by a description of the Lotus software's features. Anti-gang programs are then described for Seattle, Wash., and Tucson, Ariz. Material from the National Crime Prevention Council encompasses tools to involve parents in gang prevention, a program to help kids get "decision power," and planning for violence prevention. A description of the work of the National School Safety Center is followed by descriptions of county and community anti-gang efforts in California and a few other States. The U.S. Office of Juvenile Justice and Delinquency Prevention provides a research summary on community models of gang suppression and intervention, as well as descriptions of community-based anti-gang efforts. Other materials provided address conflict resolution programs, the use of gang injunctions, descriptions of National Institute of Justice gang suppression efforts, park safety, school safety, the Weed and Seed Program, and the gang strategy of the U.S. Office of Juvenile Justice and Delinquency Prevention.
