The report examines the types of referrals which were made by the Department for Human Services (DHS) of Jefferson County, Ky., in 1980 to the juvenile session of district court and presents data on DHS services to juveniles. It also presents information on the services to needy families in the county provided by the State's Financial Assistance Department and the Nutrition Program for the Aging.
Abstract
The report describes the functions and procedures of each component of the State juvenile justice system: its youth center, home detention/supervision, emergency shelter care, psychological services, intensive and volunteer probation, residential services, and others. Data on the various programs for juveniles operated by DHS are included. The total number of juvenile referrals decreased by 5.9 percent in 1980 as compared to 1979. There was a decrease in juvenile court referrals among all of the sex/race categories, with the largest percentage decrease for white females, down by 9.1 percent. The five most common reasons for referral were burglary, theft under $100, alcohol/drunk violation, theft over $100, and disorderly conduct. Accomplishments of the county's adult services provided by the Financial Assistance Department and the nutrition program are also examined. Tables and graphs are supplied.
