British research on law enforcement is examined in terms of its nature, findings, and trends in recent years.
Abstract
The three major types of analyses of policing are the sociological studies that have emphasized a descriptive approach and the culture of the police and studies that have focused on police management in broader legal and historical analyses. Future research should reflect recognition of the increasing debate about policing in Great Britain. Therefore, it should integrate the previous approaches and examine several current issues regarding policing. These issues include public expectations regarding the police, the effectiveness and efficiency of the police, the handling of public disorders, interagency cooperation, and priorities for policing. 130 references
