DESCRIPTION OF THE PRIVATE SECURITY EQUIPMENT SYSTEMS DEVELOPMENT PROCESS AND PROGRAMS CONDUCTED BY THE ADVANCED TECHNOLOGY DIVISION OF THE NATIONAL INSTITUTE OF LAW ENFORCEMENT AND CRIMINAL JUSTICE.
Abstract
THE ARTICLE DESCRIBES THE ORGANIZATION AND OPERATION OF WHAT WAS ORIGINALLY KNOWN AS THE 'EQUIPMENT SYSTEMS IMPROVEMENT PROGRAM' (ESIP) AND EXPLAINS THE ACTIVITIES OF ITS THREE FUNCTIONAL GROUPS, ANALYSIS, DEVELOPMENT, AND STANDARDS. SPECIFIC DEVELOPMENT GROUP PROGRAMS TOUCHED ON ARE 'SOFT' BODY ARMOR, BURGLARY SENSING AND ALARM SYSTEMS, AND PORTABLE PRIVATE CITIZEN ALARMS. STANDARDS TESTING ACTIVITIES, CONDUCTED BY THE LAW ENFORCEMENT STANDARDS LABORATORY OF THE NATIONAL BUREAU OF STANDARDS, COVER VARIOUS ALARM SENSORS AND SWITCHES, SELECTION AND USE OF FIXED SURVEILLANCE CAMERAS, AND PHYSICAL SECURITY OF DOORS AND WINDOWS.
