The Long Beach, Calif. Police Department was compared with the nine other largest municipal police agencies in California with respect to the customer base, department resources, department expenditures, patrol services, investigative services, and support services.
Abstract
The comparison period was fiscal year 1991-92. Results revealed that Long Beach is the fifth most populated city in California. It has one of the most ethnically diverse populations and ranked sixth in median household income and per capita income. Thirty-eight percent of the housing units were owner- occupied, the eighth highest among the cities. The city ranked seventh among the cities in reported violent and property crimes. It had the fourth highest ratio of sworn police personnel per 1,000 population and fourth in per capita spending on police services. Tables and appended instrument
