This research examines attitudes toward police among residents of London.
Abstract
Two particular groups of clients were studied: crime victims and suspected offenders. Both types of clients often have negative reactions following contacts with the police. The erosion of attitudes among victims is due mostly to the large proportion of victims who have also been police suspects. General ratings of public performance are affected by attitudes about police demeanor, thus, it is virtually impossible for police to please those with whom they come into contact because of their regulatory role. 5 Tables, 28 References.
