The use of lighting as a crime prevention measure is reviewed from both the general prevention effectiveness aspect as well as the technical knowledge required for a lighting installation.
Abstract
The positive and negative functions of improved inside and outside lighting as a preventive tool for burglary and vandalism in homes and businesses are discussed in chapter one. Chapter two reviews the technical knowledge, such as lamp types, current, wattage, the effect of colored lights, and physics properties of lighting. Included are diagrams of electrical circuitry, photographs of lamp types, and a schema that includes technical and cost-efficiency information for a specified lighting installation. An appendix lists electrical symbols and other technical electrical information. 30 references in English and Dutch
