Abstract
The text explains the principles, the equipment, and the design methods for many applications of interior and exterior lighting for industry, including lighting for security and emergency use and portable and mobile lighting for temporary use. Effective practice in electrical installations is reviewed, and important aspects of the management of lighting are discussed. The principles of exterior lighting for security are detailed, with emphasis on techniques and design methods to enable security lighting to be used effectively and economically to protect industrial premises against night intrusion. The discussion also covers the efficient use of energy, safety practices, the role of lighting in preventing industrial accidents, quality assurance, and modern visual inspection techniques. Although the practices referred to in the text are those of the United Kingdom, they are generally similar to those of other countries in the European Community as well as Canada, New Zealand, Australia, and the United States.
