Written for prisoners, this booklet identifies problems prisoners face upon their release and provides some suggestions about how to cope with these problems and how to take responsibility for their lives.
Abstract
Sample dialogues with prisoners and the people with whom they interact after their release illustrate problems relating to planning how to survive after prison; making living arrangements; and finding, performing, and keeping a job. The booklet also focuses on the problem of emotional survival, which usually involves relationships with significant others such as a wife, children, or a woman friend. It emphasizes the need for ex-prisoners and their families to accept each other and to work at developing new and possibly better relationships. Finally, the booklet discusses psychological changes experienced by ex-prisoners and typical needs felt by many released prisoners, such as the desire for personal space and privacy.
