This report on the proceedings of the 1995 meeting of the Homicide Research Working Group contains papers on studies done by American and Canadian researchers that pertain to juvenile homicide, correlates of homicide, and familial homicides.
Abstract
The first three sections of the proceedings contain papers, summaries, and works in progress made available to the editors. The final section contains papers in sessions for which the recorder's notes were available. The first section contains presentations on youth violence, demography and youth homicide in California, profiles of young killers, the absolute and relative involvement of contemporary youth in homicide, and the challenge of addressing juvenile homicides. Section two contains six papers that relate to the correlates of homicide. Topics addressed include consumption of alcohol and trafficking in illicit substances as correlates of homicide, a comparison of American and Canadian firearms laws, gun-related homicides, age and economic conditions as correlates of homicide, and uncleared homicides in Canada and the United States. A third section contains five papers that focus on perceptions and conceptions of homicide, perceptions and reality of homicide in Canada, the reconstruction of the stereotype of violent criminality, a theoretical model for offender risk assessment, and trends and contributing factors for juvenile homicide in the United States. The sessions for which proceedings are presented address the following topics: domestic violence data, domestic violence methods, intimate violent policy, and youth violence policy. References and data accompany the presentations.
