The legal training of security personnel at the Buick Division at Flint, Mich., progressed toward its goals.
Abstract
The program, implemented by the University of Detroit, was begun in the 1983 fall semester at the work site. Participants earned college credit. Two sections of the same class were scheduled for Mondays (for the day shift) and Wednesdays (for the afternoon shift) for a total of 15 weeks. The program goals were to elevate academic and legal knowledge, improve job performance, and increase professionalism. Empirical findings show progress toward these goals. Some theoretical positives of the classes are actual as opposed to the potential use of legal principles and the potential for legal innovation through common law principles and statutory commission. This paper explores these theoretical projections. The paper also addresses law trends and their impact on a proprietary security staff. 25 notes. (Author abstract modifed)
