This workbook presents a collection of workshops and exercises intended to provide a practical, skills-based program to help beginning students at Australian universities develop the research and study skills necessary for legal and justice studies.
Abstract
The manual also aims to provide a reference guide for use in students’ later studies and careers. The introduction notes that the workbook does not cover the theory of legal and justice studies. The introduction also advises students to become familiar with their universities’ computer resources and to complete seven preliminary exercises to become familiar with the technology. The workshop units focus on writing an essay, referencing, humanities and social science research skills, legal research skills, writing a court report, ensuring objectivity in academic writing, and style in academic writing. Additional units focus on preparing a paper for submission, using the Internet academically, research methods and data, field research methods and research variations, and further avenues and feedback. Case examples, checklists, illustrations, forms, index, and appended guidelines for spoken presentations
