IN 1972, DRAWING UPON STATE AND FEDERAL FUNDING SOURCES, THE GEORGIA DEPARTMENT OF OFFENDER REHABILITATION AND THE UNIVERSITY OF GEORGIA SCHOOL OF LAW INAUGURATED THE PRISONER LEGAL COUNSELING PROJECT.
Abstract
THE PROJECT WAS PART OF AN ORIGINAL CONSORTIUM OF STATE LAW SCHOOL POST-CONVICTION RELIEF PROGRAMS, THE OTHERS BEING IN KANSAS AND MINNESOTA. THE CONSORTIUM'S PURPOSE WAS TO STUDY AND COORDINATE DIFFERENT APPROACHES TAKEN IN DIFFERENT CORRECTIONAL SYSTEMS MODELS TOWARD FURNISHING A BROAD, UNRESTRICTED RANGE OF PROFESSIONAL LEGAL ASSISTANCE TO INDIGENT PRISONERS.
