COMPETENCE, COURAGE, AND COMPASSION ARE SEEN AS ESSENTIAL PERSONAL QUALITIES FOR POLICE ASPIRING TO COMMUNITY LEADERSHIP.
Abstract
THE AUTHOR STATES THAT LAW ENFORCEMENT OFFICERS DO NOT EXERT THE COMMUNITY LEADERSHIP ONCE EXPECTED OF FOLK HERO LAWMEN OF THE OLD WEST. IN ORDER TO REGAIN THIS STATUS IN THE COMMUNITY, OFFICERS MUST EXHIBIT COMPETENCE, SHOW COURAGE IN THE FACE OF FAILURE, AND BE COMPASSIONATE.
