Abstract
THIS ARTICLE EXAMINES HOW THE AGENCY'S FUNDS HAVE BEEN USED BY THE STATES, WITH CLOSEUPS OF A NUMBER OF FUNDED PROGRAMS. CONSIDERED ARE THE COMMUNITY-BASED PROGRAMS FUNDED THROUGH LEAA IN OKLAHOMA, THE 'SYSTEMS TINKERING' PROJECTS FINANCED IN OREGON, AND THE CORRECTIONAL STAFF TRAINING EFFORTS MADE POSSIBLE IN CONNECTICUT. ALSO HIGHLIGHTED ARE LEAA-FUNDED INSTITUTIONAL AND JUVENILE PROGRAMS IN NEW YORK, ILLINOIS, AND CALIFORNIA. PART ONE OF THIS SERIES, NCJ-35497, FOCUSED ON LEAA'S HISTORY AND DESCRIBED ITS OPERATIONS.
