This report presents the accomplishments of the Law Reform Commission of Canada regarding recommendations for the improvement, modernization, and reform of the Federal laws of Canada for the year 1988-1989.
Abstract
Highlights include publications on recommendations on crimes against the fetus, on unified criminal courts in all provinces, on compelling court appearance, and on a regulatory approach to pollution control as well as implementation of the recommendation of the Commission in judicial decisions and important conferences and symposia. The report then explains the Commission's mandate, accomplishments, and current membership. The influence of the Commission on law reform is reported in reference to legal research, public education, judicial decisions, conduct modification, and legislation. An update is provided on publication of reports to Parliament, on working and study papers, and on current research projects such as substantive criminal law, criminal procedure, protection of life, administrative law, and human rights. Consultations, co-operation with other institutions, administration, and visitors are also covered.
