Abstract
Introductory sections present a police guide to the Bill of Rights; constitutional law; Supreme Court decisions; and police standards, conduct, and liability. Information is offered on laws concerning arrests, informants, stop-and-frisk polygraphs, Miranda warnings, and confessions by juveniles. Guidelines for conducting investigations and for identifying suspects follow. Firearms controls, explosives, and terrorism receive attention as do private and campus security. First aid, drug and alcohol abuse, and deaf persons are the subjects of further sections. Federal agencies and services are reviewed, and information on corrections and crime prevention is presented. Suggestions for handling a variety of emergencies and for dealing with traffic problems also appear. In addition, computer security and gambling are discussed. Glossaries containing terms pertaining to police patrol cars, legal affairs, pornography, information systems, and other areas of interest are included. Charts, diagrams, address lists, an index, and illustrations are presented, a monthly planner for 1981 and 1982, a daily diary for 1981, expense records, and a metric conversion chart are supplied.
