THE CHOICE OF SCENARIO IS EITHER ONE DEPICTING SURRENDER TO THE MOST REPRESSIVE OF MEASURES PRODUCING A POLICE STATE OR ONE SHOWING SUBSTANTIAL CHANGES TO HUMANIZE CRIMINAL JUSTICE.
Abstract
THIS LATTER WOULD INVOLVE BOTH COLLECTIVE RESONSIBILITY FOR SOCIAL CONTROL AND COMMUNITY CONTROL OF POLICE. BOTH POSSIBLE SCENARIOUS ARE DESCRIBED IN DETAIL ALONG WITH THEIR RAMIFICATIONS. THE AUTHOR CONTENDS THAT WHICHEVER SCENARIO IS DEVELOPED WILL HAVE VESTIGIAL REMNANTS OF THE OTHER, BUT PREDICTS THAT THE NATION WILL SEE THE DISTINCT EMERGENCE OF EITHER MORE REPRESSIVE OR MORE HUMANISTIC LAW ENFORCEMENT IN THE FUTURE.
