While Australian police are becoming more sophisticated through the use of technology, it remains behind many other developed nations, while at the same time, world crime is encroaching upon the country and domestic crime is also on the rise.
Abstract
In the area of traffic policing, technology has made it easier to prove the offense and has enlarged the capture net. In addition to raising revenues for the government, traffic control efforts make the roads safer for the general public. New techniques and equipment have been developed in the areas of forensics, statistics, and communications. The reliability of computer systems and their flexibility are allowing police officers to enter crime reports, and accident, offender, or witness details directly onto the mainframe computer. Fleet management is another area which is vital to the efficient and effective operation of a police agency. The type of crime and the modus operandi used demand that police continue to search out better and more effective methods of crime prevention and investigation. 2 references
