COURSE GUIDE DESIGNED TO HELP THE STUDENT APPRECIATE THE NATURE AND COMPLEXITY OF SOCIAL FORCES AND EMPATHIZE MORE FULLY WITH OTHER SOCIAL GROUPS.
Abstract
THE ACTIVITY INVOLVES THE DIVIDING OF THE STUDENTS INTO GROUPS-CITY COUNCIL, WHITE MIDDLE CLASS, BLACK MIDDLE CLASS, BLACK LOWER CLASS, POLICE FORCE, AND WELFARE WORKERS. THE STUDENTS ASSUME THE ROLES OF THE VARIOUS GROUPS AND DEVELOP STRATEGIES FOR ATTAINING SOCIAL OBJECTIVES WHICH HAVE BEEN ASSIGNED TO EACH GROUP. FROM THE RESULTING INTERACTION THE PARTICIPANTS GAIN INSIGHTS INTO THE NATURE OF RACIAL SITUATIONS AND THE PROBLEMS OF MAKING DECISIONS WHICH ARE SATISFACTORY TO ALL PARTIES CONCERNED.
